Food Technician – Long-Term Opportunity in Thurrock

Principal Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and enthusiastic Food Technician to join a secondary school in Thurrock on a long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in Food Technology, catering, hospitality or school-based food preparation who enjoys supporting teachers and students in a practical classroom environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Food Technology department, ensuring lessons are well prepared and that students have access to the equipment and resources they need.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients, equipment and resources for Food Technology lessons.
• Support teachers during practical food lessons.
• Ensure kitchens, classrooms and equipment are clean, organised and ready for use.
• Maintain appropriate food hygiene, health and safety standards.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels, ordering supplies when required.
• Assist with the preparation and organisation of practical examinations and assessments.
• Ensure equipment is safely stored and maintained.
• Support students during practical activities where appropriate.
• Follow school policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, food hygiene and health & safety.

The Ideal Candidate

• Has previous experience working in Food Technology, catering, hospitality or a similar environment.
• Has a good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety.
• Is confident working with kitchen equipment and preparing ingredients.
• Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Has excellent attention to detail.
• Enjoys working with young people and supporting their learning.
• Can build positive working relationships with teachers and support staff.
• Has a proactive and flexible approach to their work.

Previous experience working as a Food Technician within a secondary school is desirable, but candidates with relevant catering or hospitality experience will also be considered.
