Graduate Teaching Assistant – Needed for September 2025

Assisting in Lessons: Helping the class teacher with lesson delivery, classroom management, and engaging pupils in learning activities.

Small Group Work: Running or supervising small group sessions to reinforce concepts taught in class or to provide targeted support.

1:1 Support: Offering individual assistance to students who may need extra help, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Maintaining Order: Helping to manage student behaviour and ensure a productive learning environment.

Encouraging Engagement: Supporting reluctant learners or those with behavioural challenges to stay on task.

Marking and Feedback: Assisting with marking homework or classwork (typically under teacher supervision).

Curriculum Support: Helping to plan and prepare teaching materials, often tailored to specific student needs.

Mentoring: Acting as a positive role model and sometimes mentoring students.

Safeguarding: Being vigilant about students’ wellbeing and reporting concerns according to the school’s safeguarding policy.

Resource Preparation: Helping to photocopy, prepare displays, or manage equipment.

Supervision: Covering duties like break or lunch supervision and helping during school events or trips.

GTAs often use this role as a pathway into teacher training (e.g. PGCE or School Direct).

They may be given opportunities to observe experienced teachers, attend training sessions, and gradually lead parts of lessons.
