Qualifications and Requirements:

Role and Responsibilities:
As a Year 1 teacher, you’re working with children aged 5–6 years, usually the first year of Key Stage 1. Duties include:

Planning and delivering lessons across the national curriculum

Supporting early reading (often using phonics) and writing skills

Assessing pupil progress (including phonics screening checks)

Managing classroom behaviour and routines

Working with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and parents

Providing a nurturing, structured, and stimulating learning environment
Salary (as of 2025 in London):

Main Pay Range (Inner London):
£36,745 to £52,440 (depending on experience)
