Groundsperson – Estates Team

Location: Ealing, London
Contract: Full‑time, Permanent

Holidays: 35 days per year plus bank holidays

Role & Responsibilities

As part of our Estates Team, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the school grounds to the highest standard. This is a varied role that involves working primarily outdoors — through all seasons — and contributing to the presentation, safety, and upkeep of our sports fields, landscaping, and general site. Key duties will include:

• General grounds maintenance: mowing, edging, and upkeep of lawns, hedges, and perimeter areas.

• Upkeep and preparation of sports pitches: marking, repairing, and maintaining turf to support fixtures and practices.

• Litter control, leaf clearance, and maintaining cleanliness of outdoor areas.

• Working with grounds equipment and machinery safely (mowers, strimmers, etc.).

• Assisting with landscaping, gardening, and planting as required.

• Supporting health & safety protocols for ground use, including security checks and preventing hazards.

• Working closely with other estates staff to deliver a coordinated maintenance service.

• Helping with ad hoc tasks and improvements as agreed with the Estates Manager.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or a similar outdoor role.

• Is reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.

• Has a good understanding of health & safety, especially in an outdoor context.

• Can operate lawn/grounds equipment safely.

• Is adaptable and able to work in different weather conditions.

• Is committed to the ethos of St Benedict’s and takes pride in presenting a well-maintained environment.

• Has good communication skills and a practical, hands-on attitude.
