English Academic Mentor | Immediate Start – Forest Gate Area

An academy based in Forest Gate, Newham are in search of an Academic mentor to join their Academy from immediately. The ideal person would be based within their English department, As an Academic Mentor you will be employed to deliver a tailored programme of support. The role fits within the school’s intervention systems to offer small group interventions to students during their lesson time.

This is aimed to increase the progress of students who would benefit from having the educational content delivered to them in a small group, thus closing the attainment gaps between students and key groups.

Duties and responsibilities

• Delivering small group work including Hackney Lit programme, one-to-one support, revision lessons (in groups or one-to-one) or Additional support (e.g cover lessons) as directed by the Head of Department
• Work collaboratively with the department and school colleagues by planning resources that are differentiated for students
• To assist teachers and other relevant staff by preparing resources, implementing strategies and promoting the active inclusion, participation and learning of students.
• Identify learning gaps and help to shape a bespoke intervention programme for pupils
• Have clear assessment strategies to identify gaps in knowledge, give feedback to the students and then give the students an opportunity to respond to that feedback in line with the schools assessment policy principles.
• Manage behaviour of pupils in line with the school’s behaviour policy
• Differentiate sessions in line with students’ ability, taking into account any barriers to learning or additional needs
• To actively respond to students’ diverse needs both in and out of the classroom environment
• Derive measurable outcomes from each session to track progress and ensure this is logged on the Academy’s academic mentor tracking system after each session.
